Always look on the bright side of life

Well, it seems to be a matter of fact that nothing is easy. Even after this much trouble, there seems to be some other little problems lying around. But never mind, I will try my best to overcome them!! My determination and resolve will carry me through hard times...

Always look on the bright side of life.

Finals Week

Well, to be honest, I like college life: casual, chill, fun and no formality to conform to. However, apart from taking joy in the learning process, I begin to hate exams more and more. Reason being, sometimes I am forced to take courses that I do not like at all. For instance, among the 5 final exams I will have in the next 3 days, I simply think CS106A: Java is a waste of my time but again I have to take it in order to graduate!! Well, it is a 5-unit course, meaning 3 lectures per week, 1 problem session and loads of coding. You might say that is not too bad, but what if I tell you that I am taking four other regular classes plus cantonese and golf? How about that?? And coming out with a whole big chunk of codes during a 3-hour exam is far more stressful than one could imagine. I just want to pass it so that I don't have to retake it next quarter... DA and Investment Science are still a bit shaky and need more time to review, yet time's running low. Again, I tell myself, always look on the bright side of life. Think about the winter break, think about Las Vegas!!

A busy week

So now i kinda regret signing up for so many classes. I end up having four final projects, five final exams and some problem sets. That is kind of driving me crazy. Last night, stayed up till 230am to finish the investment science project and felt miserable this morning. Still, fought my fatigue to get the cantonese final done, plus the 3-min cantonese skit. Still, have to get the decision analysis case study report out by tonight. wohh, life's never been so packed since summer 2005.

On another note, there're good things to look forward to. First of all, winter break is just around the corner, and my little angel is coming to visit and we'll hit Vegas since she's so excited to try her hand after she finally turns 21. And it's very likely I'll get  a car, although I only get to drive it for half a year. But, still, that might be the only chance i get to drive in the next couple of years and it's so beautiful here in sunny California that i foresee more road trips.

Give A Slice, give your help!

Along with a couple of other Stanford students, I've founded this initiative called 'Give A Slice' (www.giveaslice.org).

The idea is to use social networking tools such as blogging/FaceBook/MySpace in combination with this concept of 'micro-donations' (small pocket-change contributions) to help a social cause.

We've partnered with a San Francisco non-profit organization that feeds people affected with HIV/AIDS/other critical illnesses and also senior citizens who need help. I was pretty shocked to learn that there are some elderly people down here that can afford meals but are still under-nourished because they're just too isolated/depressed to take care of themselves!

There are several ways that you can help:

1. Contribute! We've started a Thanksgiving campaign to help feed people who won't be getting any 'homecooked' turkey this friday. The target's pretty small and you can help us get there.

2. Click! If you're really hard pressed, you can still help us by visiting our sponsors. Moreover, if you make an Amazon.com purchase via the search box on our website, up to 4% of you purchase price goes to help someone, at no cost to you!

3. Spread the Word: Help us spread the word. Add a GiveASlice ribbon to your website, mention us on your blog, create awareness about Project Open Hand.
